Bouygues Partnership for Education and Communities has reached contractual close on a £240 million Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme with Tower Hamlets Council.
The Bouygues Partnership includes Bouygues UK, responsible for design and construction, Ecovert FM for facilities management and ICT solutions specialist Ramesys. Together they will transform 18 schools in the borough into top quality learning centres for students, teachers and the local community over a period of 10 years.
The first schools to benefit from BSF will be Bethnal Green Technology College and St Paul’s Way Community School. St Paul’s Way will be completely rebuilt whilst Bethnal Green Technology College will be part rebuilt and part refurbished. The remaining schools will be delivered in the second “wave” of the programme.
This is the third BSF programme secured by Bouygues UK following on from the company’s successful partnerships with Waltham Forest and Westminster where, working closely with the local authorities, the transformation of teaching facilities for schools and their communities is already well underway.
Cllr Clair Hawkins, Lead Member for Children’s Services at Tower Hamlets Council said:
“We are delighted that we have reached this significant stage of our Building Schools for the Future programme.
“BSF is going to completely transform education in Tower Hamlets, and our residents can look forward to seeing some fantastic new facilities in the very near future.
“The new facilities will make learning a more enjoyable experience for students, and we are confident they will also have a positive impact on performance.”
Tim Byles, Chief Executive of Partnership for Schools – the government agency responsible for the BSF programme said:
“Tower Hamlets is the 28th deal to close, and demonstrates that despite the challenging economic conditions in which we are operating, BSF is continuing to deliver.
“Reaching financial close is a significant milestone for Tower Hamlet’s BSF project because it marks the start of very important phase – the construction of new and remodelled schools which will change the face of education in the borough and the life chances of its young people.”
Arnaud Bekaert, Commercial and Technical Director for Bouygues UK said:
“Being selected to partner with Tower Hamlets on the borough’s BSF programme is a fantastic achievement for Bouygues UK and we are confident that this will have a major impact on pupil attitudes, behaviour and attainment as well as providing parents and local communities with a broader range of services. We are totally committed to the government’s BSF programme and look forward to bringing the Tower Hamlets scheme to fruition.”
