Sir John Cass

Introduction

The proposal for Sir John Cass Foundation and Red Coat School is to upgrade the existing buildings where required as well as add new building elements. This school is based on a voluntary aided, Church of England and multi faith, 6FE, school for 900 pupils aged 11-16 and 560 pupils aged 16-18 (6th Form). In addition to the refurbishment works, the main existing building from the 60's will be partly extended and partly "filled" in with these new elements which are : • a new double height entrance space to create a state of the art 'Virtual Learning Environment' (VLE) along Stepney Way; • a performing arts facility : the drama block to the west will be extended with a 2 storey building which adds new music and media rooms, a new drama studio and a performance space; • a 5-storey extension : a 5 storey block which will be sensitively attached to the existing 5 storey building, matching the height and width of this main block; The external landscaping will include a new multi use games area.
